Hum Sub Celebrates 25th Anniversary

Hum Sub proudly celebrates its 25th year by bringing yet another edition of its hugely popular Diwali celebrations to the Booth Amphitheatre on Saturday, Oct 11.  Enjoy a daylong culturally immersive experience with stage performances of Indian classical and Bollywood music and dance and a headliner performance by a renowned artist flown in from India. Savor select Indian cuisine brought to you by some of the Triangle’s best-loved restaurants and food trucks and be dazzled by a stunning  variety of ethnic clothing and accessories from a diverse group of carefully chosen vendors.

This milestone year we bring you a special exhibition called “A Place We Call Home” that offers a peek into the Indian American community in NC through the lens of culture customs, costumes, cuisine, and contributions to corporate America and academia. This exhibition, in collaboration with the State Capitol, was on display at the Capitol through the month of September.

Take a walk down memory lane and learn of Hum Sub’s story and of those who have partnered us, as sponsors, vendors, artists, and volunteers, in this incredible journey of 25 years. It gives us immense joy to recount the many nonprofit organizations that have found a space and voice at Hum Sub Diwali that has pulls in a 15,000-strong crowd from all backgrounds.

Our youth programs, namely the Youth Achievement Award and Youth Ambassador initiatives, have been drawing talented youngsters to showcase their exceptional talents in and outside the classroom and grow into mature confident individuals who can wear the mantle of cultural ambassadors in future.

Hum Sub’s commitment to inclusive programming is reflected in the many collaborations with other Triangle organizations such as the Concert Singers of Cary and Cary Ballet, besides Turkish, Nepali, and African-American groups, to name a few.  Our recent sustainability initiatives have dramatically reduced the number of trash bags at the Diwali event just by having attendees stack their used disposables. In 2017, for the first time, we provided the stage to differently abled children, which became the catalyst for the founding of another nonprofit group for special needs families.

Hum Sub has come a long way and as we continue to draw in more people into this family, we invite you all to join us for a very special 25th year and enjoy a spectacular fireworks display worthy of a milestone year.
