ZZ Top and Dwight Yoakam Set Dos Amigos Tour
This coming spring sees Dwight Yoakam and ZZ Top collaborating on run of tour dates for the very first time. The Dos Amigos Tour includes concert dates in the Midwest, midsouth and southeast in March, April and May of this coming year. Dos Amigos is a co-billed tour with the ZZ Top and Yoakam alternating opening and closing slots. Tickets for all dates will go on sale this Friday, November 21, local time.
While Yoakam and ZZ Top, specifically front man Billy F Gibbons, have been fast friends for decades, this marks the first major touring sortie in history for the legendary country star and “that little ol’ band from Texas.” Billy Gibbons explained the origin of his enduring relationship with Yoakam that saw the two become Hollywood housemates for a six-month period decades ago. “My house in Hollywood, just above the Sunset Strip, was being renovated so I was staying at a hotel when I bumped into Dwight who I had met through a guitar tech we had in common. Hearing of my predicament, he invited me to stay at his house up in Whitley Heights and we’ve been tight ever since. I almost didn’t want the crew to finish work on my place since we had been having such a good time being ‘roomies.’”
For his part, Yoakam recalled, "Ever since 1973 when the Tres Hombres album came out, and I heard ‘La Grange’ on my Chevy Impala’s car radio I’ve been fascinated with and an ardent fan of Billy Gibbons and that ‘Little Ol’ Band From Texas,’ ZZ Top! About 1989 Billy and I became late night bread breaking friends and have remained so over all the years since, but we had never managed to merge ourselves musically and play shows together… until now. I look forward sharing the bill on shows this spring with the legendary ZZ Top and making musical mischief with Billy, Frank, & Elwood. Hey Hey! Have y’all heard the word?.. ‘Jesus just left Chicago… and he’s bound for New Orleans , workin’ from one end to the other, and all points in between’”
Billy F Gibbons, on behalf of Frank Beard and Elwood Francis, his ZZ Top bandmates, remarked, “To say we’re looking forward to sharing these concert bills with Dwight Yoakam is an understatement. We’re thinking of it as a musical summit meeting where rock and country cross pollination top the agenda.”
ZZ Top’s history goes back to the last day of 1969 with the band making its public debut at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Beaumont, TX shortly thereafter. In the intervening years, ZZ Top has been responsible for the sale of more than 60 million albums worldwide. Their catalog includes four RIAA certified Gold albums, six Platinum albums and one album, Eliminator, that has been certified Diamond in recognition of sales of more than 10 million copies. Beyond that, they enjoyed eight Top 40 singles, two Platinum-certified video collections and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame 21 years ago by Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones.
With more than 25 million albums sold worldwide, 12 gold albums, and 9 platinum or multi-platinum releases, Dwight Yoakam is a 21-time GRAMMY® nominee and multiple GRAMMY® Award winner. Yoakam received the Americana Music Association’s Artist of the Year Award, BMI Country Music’s President’s Award and was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2019, cementing his status as one of the most influential voices in American music. He has appeared in over 40 feature films, including notable roles in Sling Blade, Panic Room, Logan Lucky, and the recent Clint Eastwood–directed Cry Macho.
