Cary, NC—The North Carolina Chinese Lantern Festival is more than a spectacle to behold, it is cultural art to be experienced and understood. Koka Booth Amphitheatre is pleased to announce the addition of an educational component to this year’s festival. Aptly named Light Up Your Learning, organizers have created a program for school age children to learn more about the history, heritage, and craft of Chinese lanterns. A set of four lesson plans, created by an educator, will be available for download on the venue website. The fifth day is designed for a field trip to the festival where groups can take part in a self-guided tour to learn even more about the lanterns in person. Tickets will be $7, and reservations will be required.

“We have a responsibility to keep programming fresh and evolving,” said William Lewis, Town of Cary Cultural Arts Manager. “Outreach to schools and providing educational opportunities for students to learn more about Chinese art and culture is a natural progression for this beloved annual festival rooted in Cary. Chinese artisans are already hard at work crafting more than 2,500 lanterns that will comprise the all new 36 fascinating displays, each one comprised of hundreds of parts, and thousands of LED lights. According to organizers this year’s event will make a triumphant return to take its place in the hearts of all who have missed it. These larger-than-life lanterns will captivate visitors with their amazing craftsmanship, and artistic beauty. Cultural arts performances will again be featured each night on the main stage. The festival runs from November 19-January 9. For more information log on to To reserve your spot please email:
